Join us Good Friday, March 30th at 7:00 PM as we reflect on the death of our Incarnate Savior, Jesus Christ. 

Tenebrae [ten-uh-brey] (a Latin word meaning "shadows" or "darkness") is a service dating back several centuries that takes place within the last three days of Holy Week leading up to Easter Sunday.

Beginning with communion, it portrays the last hours of our Lord's earthly life from His prayer in Gethsemane to His burial in the tomb. Throughout the service, we will follow our Lord's journey to the cross through seven scenes represented by seven candles that will be extinguished one at a time with the conclusion of each scene, and the lighting of the church will likewise dim progressively. When the last scene has concluded, the church will become very dark, and time will be given for everyone to sit silently in meditation over what has taken place. Afterwards, a candle will be lit as a sign of the hope that we will return to celebrate on Easter Sunday, and everyone will leave the sanctuary in silence and return home. 

The mood of the service is solemn. In it, we are faced with the reality of the love and the mercy of God, the holiness and righteousness of God, and the true nature and depth of our sin as we are reminded by the suffering and humiliation and agony experienced by our Savior on our behalf."
